Why I Became a Doula

I am a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, mother- in-law, aunt and friend. I always helped others throughout my life. I provide support by locating resources, answering pregnancy and birth questions, word of wisdom, and provided care to a mom when her pregnancy was at risk. I can remember the time assisting in my daughter’s labor and delivery with her baby (that was an awesome, experience :). Just recently, I assist a special person in my life that decided to become a mother, who did not have the support that was needed during that time through her pregnancy, I guided her through by answering questions, letting her know what to expect, what was a natural process and limit her fears when she needed someone to talk to. This mom was so appreciative and happy. I was truly honored. My daughter said to me mom you should be a doula. I said, “what is a doula?” she explains to me, and I researched, after I discovered what a doula was, I decided, I can do that I have been doing it for a while. “I love family and babies”. Therefore, I enrolled to become educated and trained for being a Birth and Postpartum doula.
